When I left my parents' house, I rented a 1 bedroom apartment which was probably less than 600 square feet. It was small and somewhat cramped, but there were many advantages to living in such a small apartment.
The best thing for me to live in an apartment one bedroom was that there was not much to clean. My parents lived in a house almost three times the size of my apartment, and I remember having to clean the house and how long it took when I was growing up.
If I sat up on a daily basis, I never had to worry about giving a serious cleanup, and I never felt embarrassed to have company over.
Another advantage of a 1 bedroom apartment is that they are much less expensive than apartments or houses with multiple rooms. I know when I had my first apartment, it was about $ 100 less per month than my neighbor who had a two bedroom apartment.
One of the things I really wish I had a 1 bedroom apartment, and was it was much nicer than some of the larger units. I could not keep it very comfortable and welcoming, and not have to invest much more in furniture or decor. I've always been proud to be the most of any living space I had, and I certainly did that with my first apartment.
I also found I had fewer problems in terms of maintenance with my 1 bedroom apartment that many of my neighbors had with them. I guess it goes without saying that if you have more rooms and more space there are probably more problems, but apart from some minor cases, I do not remember having to call for the Maintenance of how some of the other tenants.
As time passed, I needed a bigger house. I met my wife and started a family, and I had to leave my apartment one room. I returned to visit a few times, and it seems so small now that I sometimes wonder how I ever made it work, but it still holds a special place in my heart. I do sometimes wonder if I had never met my wife, if I would still be living there.
While a 1 bedroom apartment may seem too small or not worth it, there are many advantages to renting. I found it more convenient for me when I moved, and it was probably the place to which I became more attached.
