In a press conference in Palo Alto headquarters to Facebook, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and CEO announced that the social network is the release of its 750 chat group million members.
The functionality of multi-person chat was inspired by the chat feature in Facebook groups and will be incorporated into the new design of Facebook Chat. Group conversation will be deployed to users begin Wednesday.
"Now when your friends can not understand this film to see, you can just add them to a chat and decide together," Facebook engineer Philip video chat Su said the new feature. "To include more friends in your conversation, simply select Add friends to Chat."
Over 50% of Facebook users are active in the Facebook groups, and groups have an average of seven people, the company said Wednesday. The idea is to make conversation more ad-hoc and accessible to all Facebook users.
In addition to group chat, Facebook is releasing its highly anticipated Skype-powered video chat feature on Wednesday.
